Osh, Kyrgyz Republic – On Friday, April 10, 2015 Osh State University inaugurates a Nonprofit Management (NPM) Resource Center, which will be supporting universities in Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken Oblasts. Kanybek Isakov, Rector of Osh State University, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, professors from the southern univerisites of Kyrgyz Republic, and representatives from USAID, East-West Management Institute and civil society organizations will participate in the event.The official opening ceremony starts at 10 a.m. at the Business and Management Department, Osh State University (80, Masalieva Street, 1st floor, room 102, Osh).
This is the second NPM Resource Center in the Kyrgyz Republic, the first has been working in the Kyrgyz National University in Bishkek since December 2013. Both Centers are supported by the USAID Collaborative Governance Program. The NPM Resource Centers serve as educational and intellectual hubs for increasing sustainability, offering professional opportunities and providing informational and legal support for the nonprofit organizations. The Osh State University’s NPM Resource Center will serve as a platform for guest lectures, conferences and discussions involving students, faculty members, and representatives of the nonprofit, business, and public sector communities of Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken Oblasts.
Following the Center’s inauguration ceremony, over 20 professors and faculty members of southern Kyrgyz Republic’s Universities will participate in a two-day Professional Development Workshop at Osh State University on April 10-11, 2015. The participants will review the syllabi of two elective university courses: Introduction to Nonprofit Management and Nonprofit Management in the Modern World and learn innovative techniques for teaching nonprofit management courses at their respective universities. The Kyrgyz Republic’s Consortium of Universities on Nonprofit Management developed two out of five planned NPM courses in collaboration with professors from Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Civil Society Studies. To date, 11 universities in the Kyrgyz Republic offer two courses for over 550 students.
The Collaborative Governance Program is one of many programs supported by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It is implemented by the East-West Management Institute in close cooperation with the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, local and international academic institutions, and civil society organizations.
