National Spatial Data Infrastructure project discussed

IBC
August 9, 2016

Representatives of GIZ, National Statistics Committee and IBC discussed project on establishing National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI). A NSDI is defined as the technology, policies, standards, human resources, and related activities necessary to acquire, process, distribute, use, maintain, and preserve spatial data.

The infrastructure could be useful for investors as it contains information on existing infrastructure, immediate environment, potential risks of emergency, estimated future risks in 5, 10, 50 years, potential markets nearby, real value of the location (for more information please visit www.giz.de).

A Strategy for the development of a NSDI in Kyrgyzstan has been drafted by an Interagency Working Group. It however could not be implemented, due to the lack of general policy elaboration and technical platform to host the NSDI.

IBC, GIZ and NSC will continue dialog to identify possible ways of collaboration.
