Cabinet of Ministers is ready to cooperate with business in solving problematic issues in the mining industry

On September 20, 2023, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Japarov and experts from the International Business Council discussed problematic issues in the mining industry.

According to IBC Executive Director Askar Sydykov, the meeting was very productive.

“We voiced a whole list of issues prepared by members and experts of the IBC Mineral Resources Committee. Akylbek Japarov confirmed that these issues are also of concern to the government, the problem is quite acute, and it is necessary to take a more active position in resolving industry issues,” said IBC head.

During the meeting, the relevant bodies were given instructions to implement a number of measures to resolve the issues discussed.

At the meeting with the head of the Cabinet of Ministers, IBC representatives voiced such problematic issues of the industry as the ban on the export of gold ores and concentrates, burdensome financial burden of subsoil users, high rates of fees for retaining a license from October 2021 to August 2022, state participation in the industry, interference of law enforcement agencies in the activities of enterprises, electricity fees, and others, including the lack of an industry development strategy.

This strategy, with a step-by-step action plan, taking into account the periods of construction and production activities of each significant mining enterprise, the program for the development of small deposits is needed as the basis for the creation of the Mining Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

"s a result of the meeting, mutual understanding was reached with the government on many issues.

"The Cabinet head agreed that problematic issues need to be resolved as soon as possible, and the government will take all necessary measures to resolve them,” Askar Sydykov said, summing up the results of the meeting.
