International congress discusses hydropower opportunities in Central Asia and the Caspian

The issues of attracting investment in the energy sector, interstate cooperation and development of green energy in the region were discussed by the participants of the International Congress “Hydropower Central Asia and the Caspian 2020” in Bishkek on February 19-20, 2020.

The Congress has become a professional platform for dialogue, exchange of experience, search for solutions and consolidation of efforts of government and business representatives for the effective implementation of a number of projects for the construction and reconstruction / modernization of hydropower plants in the region (Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Armenia, Georgia, and Russia).

The meeting participants familiarized themselves with innovative technologies and strategies for the construction and modernization of hydropower plants, examined the possibilities of developing the small hydropower sector, as well as logistics solutions for the implementation of projects to modernize hydropower plants in Central Asia and the Caspian.

Representatives of the Asian Development Bank and the EBRD informed on financing projects in the energy sector in the region.

The forum was attended by more than 150 heads of various hydroelectric power plants, government agencies, international investors and leading manufacturers of technologies and equipment.

Askar Sydykov, Executive Director of the International Business Council, took part in a plenary discussion on the challenges and opportunities for hydropower sector in Kyrgyzstan.
