On August 17, IBC representatives took part in the roundtable on the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP).

The event was organized by the Investment Promotion and Protection Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Economy Ministry and the U.S. Embassy in Bishkek. Mr. Edward Gresser, Assistant United States Trade Representative (USTR) for Trade Policy and Economics, and Ms. Zeba Reyazuddin, Deputy Assistant USTR for South and Central Asian Affairs held a presentation of the US program "The Generalized System of Preferences" for business people and civil servants of Kyrgyzstan on the Global System of Preferences and trade opportunities with the United States. The Trade Policy and Economics Division, headed by Edward Gresser, is responsible for the implementation of the GSP program around the world.

The U.S. provides duty-free preferences for 3.5 thousand types of goods from Kyrgyzstan within the GSP, Gresser said. The GSP+ program provides opportunities, but there are also requirements that should be taken into account.
