The State Committee for Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use of the Kyrgyz Republic (SCIESU) presented a Guidebook for conflict management in the mining industry of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia and Kalikova & Associates law firm prepared the Guidebook at the SCIESU request with the financial support from the PeaceNexus Foundation.

According to SCIESU Chairman Ulanbek Ryskulov, the Committee informed the local population on the contribution of the mining industry to the creation of jobs and into the economy of the country, and recommended the companies to intensify their outreach work with residents.

The problem of conflicts in the industry was acute a few years ago, but thanks to the efforts of the SCIESU (formerly the State Agency for Geology and Mineral Resources) the situation began to improve, IBC Executive Director Askar Sydykov said. It is good that PeaceNexus has implemented this research. Unfortunately, many development partners have stopped supporting our mining industry, he added.
